Owner/Director Toni McClanahan, raised in Cortez, Colorado, has a passion for dance and love of children. Her vision was to be able to share her love of dance and music with children of all ages in a nurturing and loving environment. In 1989 Dance in the Rockies opened its doors to 50 students and15 classes. Now, 20 years later, her vision has become more than she ever dreamed.
Dance in the Rockies, located in beautiful Durango, Colorado, hosts 60+ classes a week and over 200 students taught by a faculty of 8. Ms. Toni, as her students call her, not only expects her dancers to be committed to learning the art of dance but to exemplify good citizenship through teamwork, good sportsmanship, community service, and respect for others.
Dance in the Rockies offers an after school program for students from age 3 to adults. Classes begin in September and run through May, ending with a ballet performance in April and our Spring Recital in May.
For the more serious students, Dance in the Rockies offers a competition team that travels to workshops and competitions 3 times a year. The competition team also compiles its best works and presents a showcase performance in May.
All forms of dance are offered to students from novice to advanced.
